For all practical purposes, the average citizens are powerless to hold the politicians that they elected accountable. Technically the system allows for actions like impeachment, but that is rare and not very effective. I fully agree with the sentiment of holding elected politicians accountable, but there would need to be a radical change to implement an accountability system that was enforceable. Voters would need to be able to "fire" elected politicians within a month or two, not wait until the next election cycle to vote them out. A system like that would require a voting system that was secure, not too expensive to implement, and well accepted by the citizens. We have the technology to do it, but we don't have the will to do it. I appreciate your article and am glad that you brought the subject up.

If candidates are supposed to only run on positions under their office's scope, why does every Democrat run against Trump?
