Thanks for the explanation and examination. Up here in NoVA, the data centers have received permission to run their diesel generators 24/7 because it is cold outside. This is peanuts compared to the environmental injustice fostered upon our most vulnerable communities. Every data center should be required, as a condition of its construction, to generate clean energy through solar, wind, or (preferably) both. The tax "benefits" of these centers have yet to be determined (biased estimates don't count) or realized, and likely will not be quantified or realized during my lifetime given the exemptions offered.

The 'undeniable need' for AI infrastructure is a question we all must ponder. What are the choices for this civilization? Can we say no, like a staggering alcoholic and say enough. Can we envision a predominantly analog future. Old-fashioned but with an attempt to take the creative tech approach that might begin to unlock what is perfectly enough for us... maybe even awesome. My guess/hope is the simple need for survival will take humanity away from this techno-wizardry dead-end. If we ask our children to leave their phones out of schools can the adults ask of themselves the same.
