If the Dems were the majority in DC and did NOTHING, this would also be the result of that-
- USAID would still be there and hundreds of thousands of people around the world would be alive.
- tens of thousands of experts would still be working for the federal government.
- the ACA subsidies would still be there and millions would still have health care coverage.
- thousands of people would not have been held in custody or deported by ICE.
That's what "nothing" looks like compared to the current GOP. The harsh truth is getting "nothing" is infinitely better than anything we get from the GOP.
I go into the weeds on data, having volunteered in both Shenandoah and Arlington counties. Red counties had about 10% better turnout than the high-density, vote-rich urban / suburban counties. That's a problem for us, too.
Matt- there is one problem with what you are saying.
The GOP promises nothing but tax cuts and is carrying water for the oligarchs. That's EASY to do.
The policies that the Dems and the Dem base want are going against the oligarchs and corporations. That's hard. And that's much harder to deliver than what the GOP promises- namely, punching down on out-groups and attacks on institutions to appease knuckle-draggers.
Remember the first 2 years of the Obama presidency? Those 60 votes were only there for 5 months, not 2 years. And a bunch of those 60 Senators were Blue Dogs and not for what the bulk of Obama voters supported.
The Voting Rights Act in 2021 wasn't simply held up by Manchin and Sinema: the two of them were clearly being compensated in some fashion to hold up key legislation, not everything. Sure, there's no proof of it, but funny how when we needed every Democratic vote in the Senate those two suddenly had "issues" with things that they never mentioned before that just happened to prevent things like the Voting Rights Act.
Oh, it's a good thing that the filibuster was not done away with because if it was the SAVE Act would have passed, and a lot of Trump/MAGA garbage would be the law now.
Everyone- all those voters out there- has to understand that the things that the Dems want to do simply don't happen fast or easily. When you benefit the Bottom 90% you're doing so at the cost of the Top 1%, who have the bulk of the money and power. Sorry kids, but that's the way it works. And that means you have to keep voting for the Dems, cycle after cycle, in order to finally get it.
Excellent observations, Matt
Spot on. Love this. "But Wednesday morning, we go back to work. Because the win isn’t the win. The delivery is the win.
Give people a reason to vote for us, not just against the other guy.
That’s the whole job. That’s always been the whole job.
The map gave us the seats. The seats are not the point.
The point is what we do with them."
Disagree with that for this reason.

Too bad about the Supreme court ruling.
